New site or new page? How to tell before you write the check

Your website is not bringing in calls. Someone says, “You need a new site.” Someone else quotes you a number with a lot of zeros.

Hold on. Often the whole house is fine. You just need a better front door.

What is a landing page?

We wrote 15 landing page dos and don’ts if you want the deep dive. Here is the short version: a landing page is a single page built to get one action, like a call, a booking or a quote request. It is where someone arrives from a Google search or an ad, with one clear promise and one clear button.

A home page has the opposite job. It has to serve new customers, old customers, job applicants and people hunting for your address. It cannot be about one thing.

When is one page enough?

If your site already has the basics (services, an about page, a phone number, a way to get in touch), the problem is usually that nothing makes the next step obvious. Watch for these:

  • Your strongest offer, like same-week appointments or a price before work starts, is buried in small text.

  • The only form asks too many questions, or has no way to pick a day.

  • The phone number is plain text instead of a tap-to-call link.

  • People from Google land on a general page and have to hunt for what they came for.

One well-built page can fix most of that. You keep the site you have and add the page that Google and ads send people to.

When do you probably need a new site?

  • It does not work well on a phone, or is so slow people leave before it loads.

  • You cannot edit it, and every change costs money and takes weeks.

  • It runs on something that is no longer maintained.

  • It is so tangled that adding a page would break other things.

Even then, start with the landing page. You get results sooner, and you learn which message works before paying for a rebuild.

How do I decide?

Three questions. Does the site load quickly on a phone? Can a stranger tell in five seconds what you do, where, and what to do next? Can they reach a real person from any page in one tap?

If the answers are yes, yes, no: you need a page, not a site.

Or let someone check for you

Every report from our free audit includes a plain answer to this exact question: a landing page, a bigger rebuild, or neither, with the reason. Run yours or see a sample report first.

If the answer is “a page,” our designers, copywriters and developers build them for a living. Reach out and we will take it from there.
